AN ACT
RELATIVE TO SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS
IN THE TOWN OF GREEENFIELD.
SECTION 1.
The
m
ayor of the city
kn
own as the
t
own of Greenfield may appoint such special police officers for the city as the
m
ayor deems necessary for the safety and protection of the citizens of the city.
SECTION 2.
Special police officers shall have the same power
s
to make arrests and to perform other police functions as reserve
and
intermittent police officers and shall be subject to the same training requirements as reserve
and
intermittent officers established by the
m
unicipal
police t
raining
c
ommittee and the
t
own of Greenfield.
SECTION 3.
Special police officers sha
ll b
e appointed for
a term to be determined by the m
a
yor, subject to removal by the m
ayor with the recommendation of
the
c
hief of
p
olice. Special police officers shall be sworn
before the city
clerk
who sha
ll
keep a record of all such appointments.
SECTION 4.
A special police officer appointed under this act shall be subject to the rules and regulations, policies
,
procedures and requirements
,
including training requirements of the police department and the chief of police,
and
restrictions on the type of assignments
. Special
police officers shall also be subject to the requirements regarding
medical examinations to determine continued capability to perform the duties of a special police officer.

eserve police officers are unavailable or otherwise assigned.
SECTION 6.
Special police officers appointed under this act shall not be subject to chapter 3

of the General Laws.
SECTION 7.
This act sha

take effect upon its passage.
