SENATE DOCKET, NO. 2299 FILED ON: 8/22/2012 SENATE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . No. 2427
An Act amending employment prohibitions for town council members in the town of Greenfield. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: SECTION 1. The charter of the town of Greenfield, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out section 2-3 and inserting in place thereof the following:- 2-3: PROHIBITIONS No member of the Town Council shall hold any other Town office or Town employment for which a salary or other emolument is payable from the Town treasury unless: a. A vote is taken by the council to exempt said councilor with a majority vote of the council for the calendar year of said employment; and b. such employment is temporary or part time; and c. such employment is not subject to any Town funded benefit package; and d. such employment does not exceed payment of more than $7500 per year. No former member of the Town Council shall hold any compensated appointed Town office or Town employment until one (1) year following the date on which such former member's service on the Town Council has terminated unless a majority vote of the council is taken to exempt said councilor. This provision shall not prevent a Town officer or other Town employee who has taken a leave of absence in order to serve as a member of the Town Council from returning to the same office or other position of Town employment held at the time such leave of absence commenced; provided, however, no such person shall be eligible for any other municipal position until at least one (1) year following the termination of service as a member of the Town Council. |
