An Act relative to high speed chases. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 25 the following section:— Section 25A. Whoever willfully ignores the signal of a police officer to stop a motor vehicle and then operates the motor vehicle at a rate of speed in excess of 20 miles per hour over the speed limit established under sections 17, 17A, and 18 for a distance of a mile shall be punished by a fine of not more than $1,000 dollars and by imprisonment in a jail or house of correction for not more than 2 and ½ years, or by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than 5 years. |
