HOUSE DOCKET, NO. 1923 FILED ON: 1/20/2011 HOUSE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . No. 1094
An Act relative to the academic success of foster children. Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to waive fees for children in foster care for participating in after-school programs, therefore, it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: Section 47 of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the seventh sentence of the first paragraph in line 40 the following:- Each school district shall, in collaboration with the area director of the department of children and families, develop a plan for the removal of fees associated with public school-sponsored after-school activities that serve as a barrier to participation in said activities by a child who is in the care and custody of the department of children and families. No child in the care and custody of the department may be prevented from participating in a public school-sponsored after-school activity for failure to pay an associated fee. |
