An Act relative to self-service storage facilities. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: Chapter 105A is hereby amended by inserting after Section 8 the following new Section:- Section 9. Every operator shall keep or cause to be kept, in permanent form, a register in which shall be recorded the true name or name in ordinary use and last known address of every occupant in the self-service storage facility, together with a true and accurate record of the unit assigned to such person and of time frame when such unit is assigned under the rental agreement. The entry of the names of the occupants of said unit shall be made by said occupant, except that when five or more members of a business, fraternal, or social group or other group having a common interest are engaging units, they may designate one person to make said entry on their behalf and prior to occupancy. Until the entry of such name and the record of the unit has been made, such person shall not be allowed to occupy privately any unit upon the licensed premises. Such register shall be retained by the operator for a period of at least one year after the date of the last entry therein, and shall be open to the inspection of the licensing authorities, their agents and the police. Whoever violates any provision of this section shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred nor more than five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for not more than three months, or both |
