By Mr. O'Day of West Boylston, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 2250) of James J. O'Day and Christi Berry, for her son Travis relative to increasing the penalties for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.  The Judiciary.

An Act relative to leaving the scene of motor vehicle crashes .
 

              Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

              SECTION 1. Section 24(2)(a½)(1) of chapter 90 of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking the clause “shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than two years” and inserting in place thereof the following:  -- shall be punished by imprisonment in the house of correction for not more than two and one-half years or imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two and one-half years nor more than five years.

              SECTION 2. Section 24(2)(a½)(2) of chapter 90 of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking the clause “be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two and one-half years nor more than ten years” and inserting in place thereof the following:  -- be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two and one-half years nor more than fifteen years.

              SECTION 3. Section 63 of chapter 277 of the General Laws, is hereby amended by adding following paragraph after the last full paragraph:  -- An indictment or complaint for an offense set forth under section 24(2)(a½)(2) of chapter 90 may be brought at any time after the commission of such offense.
