By Mr. Ross, a petition (accompanied by bill, Senate, No. 230) of Richard J. Ross for legislation to promote higher levels of achievement in schools by the Office of the State Auditor.  Education.

An Act relative to the Audit/Accountability office.
 

              Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

              SECTION 1. Sentence 1 of Section 55A of Chapter 15 is hereby amended by striking the following: “within the department” and inserting: “within the Office of the State Auditor”.  Sentence 2 of Section 55A of Chapter 15 is hereby amended by striking the following: “The office shall provide a mechanism to review and report on the efforts of schools, charter schools and school districts, including regional school districts, to improve the academic achievement of their students and shall inform and assist the board and department in fulfilling their broader responsibilities to promote high levels of achievement in the schools and districts of the commonwealth.” and inserting: “The office shall provide a mechanism to review and report on the efforts of schools, charter schools and school districts, including regional school districts, to improve the academic achievement of their students and shall inform and assist the board and department in fulfilling their broader responsibilities to promote high levels of achievement in the schools and districts of the commonwealth; the office will further present a prioritized list of technical assistance that the department should provide to improve educational outcomes.”

              SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on July 1, 2011.
