An Act increasing the penalty for assault and battery on a police officer.
 

              Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

              Section 1. Section 13D of chapter 265 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out in lines 4, 5 and 6 the words “for not less than ninety days nor more than two and one-half years in a house of correction or by a fine of not less than five hundred nor more than five thousand dollars” and inserting in their place the following words:-  in the state prison for not more than 5 years or by a fine of not more than $5000, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
