CHAPTER 200 AN ACT RELATIVE TO STATEWIDE BRANCH BANKING.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 3 of chapter 167C of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the first paragraph, as amended by section 9 of chapter 626 of the acts of 1982, and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-

After such notice and hearing as the commissioner may require and, with his written permission and under such conditions as he may approve, a bank may establish and maintain one or more branch offices or depots (a) in any city or town within the commonwealth where, in the opinion of the commissioner, the public would benefit by the establishment of additional bank facilities, or (b) on a site in one of the states of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont, where, in the opinion of the commissioner, the public would benefit by the establishment of additional bank facilities.

The establishment and maintenance of branch offices or depots in any one of the states listed in clause (b) shall also be established and maintained in accordance with the laws of such state.

SECTION 2. The fifth paragraph of section 34B of chapter 168 of the General Laws, as appearing in section 12 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 5 and 7, the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 3. The fifth paragraph of section 34D of said chapter 168, as appearing in section 13 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 6 and 12 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 4. The sixth paragraph of section 35 of said chapter 168, as amended by section 14 of said chapter 626, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 4 and 10 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 5. The fourth paragraph of section 24 of chapter 170 of the General Laws, as appearing in section 15 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 4 and 10 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 6. The fifth paragraph of section 26B of said chapter 170, as appearing in section 16 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 5 and 7 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 7. The fifth paragraph of section 26D of said chapter 170, as appearing in section 17 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 5 and 12 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 8. The fifth paragraph of clause (4) of subsection A of section 36 of chapter 172 of the General Laws, as appearing in section 18 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 5 and 12 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b).

SECTION 9. The fourth paragraph of section 38 of said chapter 172, as appearing in section 19 of said chapter 626, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 4 and 10 the letter "(d)" and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the letter:- (b). +j `ts `t(
