Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 22 of chapter 211 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 8 of chapter 455 of the acts of 1982, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice of the court shall receive a salary of seventy thousand dollars, and each associate justice a salary of sixty-seven thousand five hundred; and the chief justice and associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth upon the certificate of the chief justice, the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 1A. Notwithstanding the provisions of section ninety-four of chapter two hundred and twenty-one of the General Laws, this act shall not cause the salaries of the clerk or assistant clerks of the supreme judicial court for Suffolk county to be increased.
SECTION 2. Said section 22 of said chapter 211 is hereby further amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 1 of this act, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice of the court shall receive a salary of seventy-four thousand two hundred dollars and each associate justice a salary of seventy-one thousand six hundred dollars, and the chief justice and each associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth upon certificate of the chief justice, the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 3. Said section 22 of said chapter 211 is hereby further amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 2, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice of the court shall receive a salary of seventy-eight thousand seven hundred dollars, and each associate justice a salary of seventy-five thousand nine hundred dollars; and the chief justice and each associate justice, the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 4. Said section 22 of said chapter 211 is hereby further amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 3 of this act, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice shall receive a salary of eighty-three thousand four hundred dollars, and each associate justice a salary of eighty thousand five hundred dollars; and the chief justice and each associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth upon the certificate of the chief justice the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 5. Section 2 of chapter 211A of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 9 of said chapter 455, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice shall receive a salary of sixty-seven thousand five hundred dollars and each associate justice a salary of sixty-five thousand dollars; and the chief justice and each associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth, upon the certificate of the chief justice, the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 6. Said section 2 of said chapter 211A is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 5, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice shall receive a salary of sixty-eight thousand nine hundred dollars and each associate justice a salary of sixty-six thousand two hundred and fifty dollars; and the chief justice and each associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth upon the certificate of the chief justice the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 7. Said section 2 of said chapter 211A is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 6, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice shall receive as a salary seventy-three thousand dollars, and each associate justice a salary of seventy thousand two hundred and fifty dollars; and the chief justice and each associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth upon the certificate of the chief justice the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 8. Said section 2 of said chapter 211A is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence, as most recently amended by section 7, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief justice shall receive as a salary seventy-seven thousand four hundred dollars, and each associate justice a salary of seventy-four thousand five hundred dollars; and the chief justice and each associate justice shall annually receive from the commonwealth upon the certificate of the chief justice the amount of expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties.
SECTION 9. Section 4 of chapter 211B of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the third paragraph, as appearing in section 10 of said chapter 455, and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-
The chief administrative justice shall receive as a salary sixty-five thousand dollars.
SECTION 10. Said section 4 of said chapter 211B, as most recently amended by section 9, is hereby further amended by striking out the first three paragraphs and inserting in place thereof the following three paragraphs:-
The salaries of the justices of the trial court shall be paid by the commonwealth. Each associate justice shall receive as a salary sixty-three thousand six hundred dollars.
The administrative justice for the several departments shall receive as a salary sixty-six thousand two hundred and fifty dollars.
The chief administrative justice shall receive as a salary sixty-eight thousand nine hundred dollars.
SECTION 11. Said section 4 of said chapter 211B is hereby further amended by striking out the first three paragraphs, as most recently amended by section 10, and inserting in place thereof the following three paragraphs:-
The salaries of the justices of the trial court shall be paid by the commonwealth. Each associate justice shall receive as a salary sixty-seven thousand five hundred dollars.
The administrative justice for the several departments shall receive as a salary seventy thousand two hundred and fifty dollars.
The chief administrative justice shall receive as a salary seventy-three thousand dollars.
SECTION 12. Said section 4 of said chapter 211B is hereby amended by striking out the first three paragraphs, as most recently amended by section 11, and inserting in place thereof the following three paragraphs:-
The salaries of the justices of the trial court shall be paid by the commonwealth. Each associate justice shall receive as a salary seventy-one thousand five hundred and twenty dollars.
The administrative justice of the several departments shall receive as a salary seventy-four thousand five hundred dollars.
The chief administrative justice shall receive as a salary seventy-seven thousand four hundred dollars.
SECTION 13. Section 9 of said chapter 211B is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-
There shall be created, subject to appropriation, a reserve fund administered by the chief administrative justice of the trial court, for the purpose of providing secretarial and administrative support staff and services to the justices of the superior court department of the trial court.
SECTION 14. Notwithstanding the provisions of section thirty-five A of chapter two hundred and seventeen of the General Laws to the contrary, this act shall not cause the salaries of the registers of probate and their assistants to be increased.
SECTION 15. Sections one, five, and nine of this act shall take effect as of January first, nineteen hundred and eighty-four.
SECTION 16. Sections two, six, and ten of this act shall take effect as of July first, nineteen hundred and eighty-four.
SECTION 17. Sections three, seven, and eleven of this act shall take effect on July first, nineteen hundred and eighty-five.
SECTION 18. Sections four, eight, and twelve of this act shall take effect on July first, nineteen hundred and eighty-six.
