CHAPTER 647 AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE SPRINGFIELD MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter 455 of the acts of 1948 is hereby amended by striking out section 2, as amended by chapter 280 of the acts of 1959, and inserting in place thereof the following section:-

Section 2. Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special law, the construction and operation of said hospital shall be vested in a board of eleven trustees. The commissioner of public health in said city by virtue of his office shall be a voting member of the board of trustees. The remaining ten trustees shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by the city council, and shall consist of: three persons who are practicing physicians or surgeons in said city, but not more than two trustees shall be members of the staff of any one general hospital in said city; two persons who are hospital administrators in said city, but not more than one trustee shall be an administrator of any one general hospital in said city; five persons who are laypersons and who are residents of said city. Upon the expiration of the term of any trustee, his successor shall be appointed for a term of six years. Any vacancy in the board of trustees shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner as the original appointment was made. The mayor shall appoint annually one of the board members to serve as chairman and the members of the board shall receive no compensation.

SECTION 2. Any person serving as a member of the board of trustees of the Springfield municipal hospital on the effective date of this act shall continue to serve until the expiration of the term for which he was appointed. Upon the expiration of the term of any member of said board of trustees, his successor shall be appointed in the manner and for the term provided in section two of said chapter four hundred and fifty-five.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its acceptance by the city of Springfield.
