Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 2.4 of the charter of the town of Greenfield, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth as provided by section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:- In case of a tie vote, the remaining members of the board of selectmen shall call a special election pursuant to section ten of chapter forty-one of the General Laws.
SECTION 2. Section 3.1 of said charter is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:- In case of a tie vote, the town council and board of selectmen shall appoint a member, from one of the persons involved in the tie, to the town council pursuant to section eleven of chapter forty-one of the General Laws.
SECTION 3. Said charter is hereby further amended by striking out section 21.1 and inserting in place thereof the following section:-
Section 21.1. Nomination of candidates for all elected offices under this charter, except town councillors, shall be made by party caucus or by nomination papers for an unenrolled candidate, which papers shall bear the signatures of fifty voters of the town. For each councillor, such councillor shall, by nomination papers, procure fifty signatures of registered voters residing in the town of Greenfield and in the candidate's precinct. All papers provided herein shall be filed with the town clerk at least thirty-five days before the election or at a time specified by law, and with the registrar of voters fourteen days prior to said filing with the town clerk or at a time specified by law. No nomination papers shall be valid in respect to any candidate whose written acceptance is not thereon or attached thereto.
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
