Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 33 of chapter 239 of the acts of 1897 is hereby amended by striking out the second sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The school committee shall meet on the first Wednesday after the first Monday in January in each even numbered year and shall at such meeting, or as soon thereafter as may be, choose by ballot a chairman from among its members, and the votes of a majority of all the members of the school committee shall be required to elect.
