Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Notwithstanding the provisions of section eight C of chapter forty of the General Laws, the board of selectmen of the town of Stoneham are hereby authorized to appoint two associate members to the conservation commission for terms not to exceed three years. Said associate members may be designated by the chairman of said conservation commission in the case of absence, inability to act or conflict of interest on the part of any members thereof or in the event of a vacancy on the commission until said vacancy is filled in accordance with the provisions of said section eight C of said chapter forty.
