Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special law to the contrary and for the purpose of promoting the public good, the retirement board of the town of Greenfield is hereby authorized and directed to pay Amy Creigle, the surviving spouse of firefighter Kenneth J. Creigle, of the fire department of said town, an accidental death benefit as provided under the provisions of section 9 of chapter 32 of the General Laws.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect as of January 30, 1998.
