Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1.
The office of treasurer-collector of the town of
Westborough is hereby established. The treasurer-collector shall be appointed
by the board of selectmen for a term not to exceed three years and shall have
all the powers and duties vested in the office of treasurer and the office of
collector. A vacancy in the office of treasurer-collector shall be filled in a
like manner for the
unexpired term.
SECTION 2.
Notwithstanding the provisions of section 1, the
incumbent
in the office of treasurer upon the effective date of this act shall hold the
office of treasurer until the expiration of his term or earlier vacating of
office.
SECTION 3.
Paragraph
(a)
of section 3-1 of article 3 of the
charter of the town of Westborough which is on file in the office of the
archivist of the commonwealth as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the
General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out the word
", treasurer".
SECTION 4.
Paragraph
(d)
of section 3-2 of said article 3 of
said
charter is hereby amended by striking out, in the first sentence, the words
"tax
collector" and inserting in place thereof the following
words:- treasurer-collector.
SECTION 5.
Said article 3 of said charter is hereby further amended
by
striking out section 3-8.
SECTION 6.
The last paragraph of section 6-6 of article 6 of said
charter is hereby amended by striking out, in the first sentence, the words
"town
treasurer" and inserting in place thereof the following
words:- treasurer-collector.
