Senator Susan Fargo represents the Third Middlesex District, which comprises the towns of Bedford, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Lincoln, Waltham, Weston, and parts of Lexington and Sudbury.

She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University and has two graduate degrees from Harvard University: a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Graduate School of Education, and a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Senator Fargo is a former Massachusetts public school teacher and editor of the Lincoln Journal. She is also a former Lincoln Selectman and elected to serve as the Chair for two terms. She was first elected to the Massachusetts State Senate in 1996.

Currently, Senator Fargo serves as the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health. She is also the Vice-Chair of the Post Audit and Oversight Committee and serves on the Senate Ways and Means Committee, the Joint Committees on Health Care Financing, Municipalities and Regional Government, State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. Senator Fargo is the Senate Chair of the Women's Legislative Caucus.

Senator Fargo has authored several pieces of groundbreaking legislation, including the Buffer Zone, a first in-the-nation bill that protects medical staff and patients at family planning facilities, and a comprehensive bill that combats invasive weeds in our waterways while saving the Commonwealth millions of dollars. She was the lead sponsor of the Statewide Workplace Smoking Ban. Her Children and Family Protection Act, was the toughest pesticide law in the nation.

Senator Fargo was also a coauthor of the popular Senior Circuit Breaker tax credit, which provides up to a $960 per year state tax credit for qualified seniors. Her Nursing Mothers Protection Act and Free Higher Education for the children of fallen soldiers bill, were signed into law by Governor Patrick this term.
